TORONTO, May 29, 2026 – A TTC notice shows that Line 1 subway service between St George and Sheppard West will end early starting at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 29, for planned track work. TTC will operate shuttle buses during the closure. Glencairn and Dupont stations will be closed, while some entrances at Yorkdale, St Clair West and Spadina stations will also be closed. For late-night commuters, service-sector workers, students and passengers with mobility needs around North York, Yorkdale, Dupont, St Clair West and Spadina, getting home tonight should not be planned only around regular subway schedules.

TTC said shuttle buses will operate along the affected section, with staff on site to assist passengers. Residents who usually travel north by subway after 11 p.m. should check in advance whether they will need to transfer to surface transit at stations such as St George, Spadina, Dupont, St Clair West, Eglinton West, Yorkdale or Sheppard West. For restaurant, mall, cleaning, care and security workers finishing late shifts, the early subway closure may affect the final connection to local buses, GO Transit or family pickup arrangements.
Passengers with mobility needs should plan especially carefully. TTC said Wheel-Trans service will provide support for passengers who need assistance, and riders can also call the TTC Lift Line to check real-time elevator and escalator status. Because Glencairn and Dupont stations will be closed tonight, some passengers may not be able to use their usual entrances or exits. Those who need elevators, accessible entrances or short walking transfers should check Live Service Alerts before leaving, rather than changing routes only after arriving at the station.
For many Chinese and newcomer families, late-night transit changes are easy to overlook. Parents picking up students who return late, or adult children picking up seniors after work, may arrive at a station only to find that subway service has ended or entrances are closed if they rely only on regular map routes. Anyone travelling through the affected section tonight should check shuttle bus locations, expected wait times and walking distance after getting off, while allowing extra time for night safety and weather conditions.
It is important to note that shuttle buses do not mean travel time will stay the same. Bus service can be affected by road conditions, passenger volume, event crowds and weather, and shuttle stops may not be exactly beside subway entrances. TTC reminds passengers to follow TTC notices, MyTTC e-Services and real-time service alerts on its website. Passengers who need to travel north or pass through the St George-to-Sheppard West section tonight, especially late-shift workers, students and people with mobility needs, should confirm their route before departure and prepare an alternative way home.(LJI by Yuanyuan)
