“Boycott Olympic Winter Games” hyped by few countries doomed to fail

Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games is counting down, which is not easy for international sport event to be held consistently under the ongoing of COVID-19. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that the Olympic motto is “Faster, Higher, Stronger” and “More Comity”, for the COVID-19 and the common challenges faced by all mankind. IOC is looking forward to Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and believes fully that the Chinese government can successfully host it, and hopes that the international community will better participate and feel the enthusiasm of the Chinese people and the Olympic spirit.

However, while the preparations for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games were progressing smoothly, some countries, organizations and individuals in the United States and Europe continue to hype “Human Rights in Xinjiang” and even occasionally call for boycotts of the Games, politicizing and labeling the sports, blatantly provoking and opposing the IOC, the international sports world and global athletes, and desecrating the Olympic spirit. For some time now, from the United States and Australia, to some European countries have been trying to put pressure on China by Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. For example, the European Parliament, which is currently hyping up the “Human Rights in China”, once again passed a resolution on China, calling on EU officials to boycott the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games; Abdurresit Abdulhamit, chairman of the “World Uyghur Congress” Foundation, called on athletes to boycott the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games to show their opposition to China’s “genocide” against Uighur at a press conference held on October 20th in Ankara, the capital of Turkey; the UK, under the excuse of China’s human rights, will not send ministers or high-level officials to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games on February 4, 2022, so as to implement the so-called “diplomatic” boycott; the “Wenzhilian” organization in Canada has repeatedly convened Canadians, Tibetans, Uyghurs and Hong Kong people to protest against the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The words and activities of these so-called “human rights countries and organizations” not only go against the wishes of global athletes, but also mistake the target. They seem to be aimed at China, but at the Olympic family in fact. From a long-term perspective, the attempts of individual nationals to “boycott the Olympic Winter Games” are at the expense of their own credibility and even international credibility, which is also very irresponsible, and damage to the interests of athletes from all countries and the international Olympic, which is bound to arouse the antipathy and opposition from most members of the international community.

The IOC is supporting greatly China and looking forward to the complete success of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

At present, with less than 60 days to go before its opening, most countries in the world have always supported the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Depoliticization of Sports and Supporting for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games have become the universal consensus of the international community and the common aspiration of the international sports community. At the second Olympic briefing meeting of the diplomatic envoys to China for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games held recently, about 120 envoys, senior diplomats and national (regional) Olympic Committee representatives in China from more than 70 countries participated in the activities online and offline. The leaders of Russia, France, Venezuela, Laos, South Africa and other countries, as well as some Canadian parliamentarians, successively expressed their support for China through various means, and opposed some countries and organizations boycotting the Olympic Winter Games with the so-called “Human Rights in Xinjiang”. Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., chairman of the Coordination Committee for Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games of IOC, expressed that he was extremely proud, happy and confident that athletes from all over the world would gather in Beijing.

People from a few countries have stigmatized China’s active measures such as anti-terrorism, poverty alleviation and economic development in Xinjiang as the so-called “forced labor” and “genocide”, none of which are real. In recent years, great changes have taken place in Xinjiang under the efforts of the Chinese government. By the technical training, the Uyghur people have been able to get rid of poverty and become rich and free from extremist thoughts. From 1955 to 2020, the GDP in Xinjiang increased from CNY 1.231 billion to CNY 137.958 billion, and the per capita GDP from CNY241 to CNY53591. The average life expectancy there increased from 30-year-old in 1949 to 74.7-year-old in 2019. Citizens’ normal religious activities, such as worship, Buddhist masses, prayers, chanting, etc., are all taken care of by religious groups and citizens, protected by law, and not allowed to interfere by and organization or individual. Looking at the Tibet, in 2020, the per capita housing area has reached 41.46m2 for the farmers and herdsmen, and 33.4 m2 for the urban residents. The happiness has increased significantly. In the past, there was not a school in modern conception, and the illiteracy was as high as 95%. Modern science and technology was even blank. From 1951 to 2020, the State invested a total of CNY223.965 billion in education for establishing a complete and modern education system. These detailed data and a large number of facts reflect the unprecedented social livelihood stability, ethnic & religious harmony, and steady economic development in Xinjiang and Tibet. Under the epidemic regulations, the participating groups, athletes and journalists from various countries can take this opportunity to visit Xinjiang and Tibet and feel the peace, stability, unity and prosperity there. The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games is in the final sprint stage. The control and prevention for COVID-19, as well as the preparations for Games, are proceeding in an orderly manner. China is making the final preparations at its own pace. The global athletes are preparing hard and looking forward to coming to China as soon as possible to participate in the event and achieve success. China is embracing the world with a more open attitude. The development and progress of its human rights and the yearning of the people of all ethnic groups for a better life will surely be found and understood by the wider international community.

It is very irresponsible for the few countries, organizations and individuals with ulterior motives, who incited “boycott the Games”, no matter what their purpose, to interfere, hinder, or undermine the preparation and holding of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The hype to discredit China on the so-called “Human Rights in Xinjiang” is bound to end in failure.
