On September 21, 2024, the Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA), in collaboration with several partner organizations, successfully hosted the “Silver Moonlight: Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration for Seniors” in Vaughan. The event attracted numerous seniors and residents from the community, coming together to celebrate this traditional festival filled with reunion and warmth.

On the day of the event, VMCA Chair Jennifer delivered a heartfelt welcome speech, stating, “The Vaughan Multicultural Community Association is committed to providing a variety of cultural and social activities for seniors, aiming to enrich their later years and promote integration and harmonious coexistence among different ethnic groups by building a vibrant multicultural platform. Through these events, we hope to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen community cohesion.”

The celebration was rich in content. Starting at 11 a.m., the event kicked off with a photography exhibition showcasing the work of senior community members. These photos captured the beautiful moments in life and reflected their unique perspectives of the world. At 1 p.m., the highly anticipated Mid-Autumn floral art exhibition opened, featuring exquisite flower arrangements that perfectly combined the beauty of nature with the festive atmosphere, earning praise from attendees. At 2 p.m., the cultural performances officially began. The performances included a lively fitness demonstration with soft power balls and various forms of traditional Chinese music, such as the hulusi, erhu, and Peking opera, highlighting the energy and vitality of the elderly participants. The diverse song and dance performances showcased the charm of traditional Chinese culture, offering the audience a visual and auditory feast.

During the event, the organizers thoughtfully prepared various traditional Mid-Autumn delicacies, including mooncakes and tea snacks, allowing participants to enjoy both the food and the festive joy. Additionally, a raffle was held, bringing generous prizes and surprises to lucky attendees, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

This event was jointly organized by Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA), Mapleview Entertainment, the Canada-China International Cultural Development Association (CCICDA), and Asight, with co-sponsorship from the United Chinese Canadians Federation of Canada. The event was free and open to the public. Jennifer emphasized the important contributions of these partners in her speech, noting that their support was instrumental to the event’s success.
