STOUFFVILLE, ON (June 16, 2024) – Today, over 1,300 community supporters came together for the second annual Stouffville Main Street 5K. The Town of Stouffville and the Office of Mayor Iain Lovatt held the event
with Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) as the chosen beneficiary and raised $113,245!
The Stouffville Main Street 5K is an annual family walk/run held on Father’s Day for both recreational and
competitiive participants. The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to the services that MSH offers to the
Stouffville community and raise funds for the hospital. “After the overwhelming success of our first walk/run in
2023, I am thrilled that it is now an annual event, raising much needed funds for our hospital, the Markham
Stouffville Hospital,” says Mayor Lovatt.
In celebration of Father’s Day, Rajen Sanghvi, took to the stage to talk about his own experiences with fatherhood and expressed his gratitude for the care his dad received in his final days before passing away from brain cancer.
“My dad, Burt, was a volunteer at Markham Stouffville Hospital and when he passed last year, I couldn’t think of any better way to honour him than to participate in this Stouffville 5K,” says Sanghvi. “From the time of my dad’s diagnosis through to his passing, he had a number of visits to Markham Stouffville Hospital, and as a family, so did we. Markham Stouffville Hospital is a wonderful hospital and we are lucky to have it so close to us.”
Today, health care’s complex landscape is changing, along with our growing, diverse community. Government can’t fund all of the hospital’s priority needs.
