Toronto — The China–Canada Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum was held in Toronto on December 1, bringing together more than 150 representatives from government and business communities of both countries. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); Luo Weidong, Consul General of China in Toronto; Bijan Ahmadi, Executive Director and COO of the Canada China Business Council (CCBC); and Jan De Silva, President and CEO of the Toronto Region Board of Trade, attended the event and delivered remarks.

In his address, Ren Hongbin noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Canada and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership. He said that the recent meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Gyeongju, South Korea, has provided strategic guidance for improving and advancing bilateral relations. Ren stated that CCPIT is ready to work with Canadian counterparts to support the healthy and stable development of bilateral economic ties, strengthen communication between business communities, and assist enterprises in expanding trade and investment. He highlighted cooperation opportunities in traditional sectors as well as emerging fields such as clean energy, automotive electronics, and scientific and technological innovation, along with collaboration in third-party markets, supply chain coordination, and multilateral platforms. He also welcomed Canadian businesses to actively participate in the APEC China Year events in 2026.

Canadian business leaders expressed optimism regarding China’s recent signals of further opening-up following the Fourth Plenary Session, noting that amid profound changes in global supply chains, it is an opportune time to deepen trade and economic cooperation with China. They emphasized their interest in leveraging the Chain Expo as an important platform and in advancing cooperation with Chinese enterprises by drawing on Canada’s strengths in financial services, natural resources and energy, advanced manufacturing, and agri-food.

During the forum, China International Exhibition Center Group (CIEC Group) promoted the upcoming Fourth Chain Expo and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Canada China Business Council. According to organizers, more than 300 Chinese and international companies have already signed participation agreements for the Fourth Chain Expo.(LJI by Rita)
