China Journalists Association Holds Global Overseas Chinese-Language Media “Journalists’ Salon” in Kunming

TORONTO, April 23, 2026  On April 23, the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Department of the All-China Journalists Association held the “Colorful Yunnan · Recommended by Overseas Media” Journalists’ Salon in Kunming, Yunnan, as part of the Global Alliance of Chinese-Language Media’s China Tour visiting Yunnan. The event focused on Yunnan’s efforts to promote high-quality economic and social development. Relevant officials from the Yunnan Provincial Development and Reform Commission were invited to give a special presentation on the province’s main development achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and its key planning measures for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and to engage in exchanges with participating media representatives.

The guest speaker introduced planning measures related to Yunnan’s economic and social development, ecological protection, and ethnic unity during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. This was followed by an interactive discussion with media representatives including Chen Lin, president of Canada’s Soulo Magazine; Lu Xinyan, deputy president of New Zealand Xiangyin Daily; Suo Jiang, president of Australia’s Austvision Media; and Tao Lin, editor-in-chief of the U.S.-based Wall Street Herald. The discussion focused on topics such as Yunnan’s efforts during the 15th Five-Year Plan period to build a coordinated regional development pattern, promote a higher level of opening-up, accelerate the development of a modern infrastructure system, and introduce new measures to improve people’s livelihoods.

With Yunnan’s high-quality economic and social development as its core topic, the salon focused on development planning and practical pathways for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. It built a platform for dialogue and exchange between global Chinese-language media and relevant Yunnan departments, helping Yunnan better tell its story of high-quality development to the world. More than 60 people attended, including representatives from 50 Chinese-language media outlets across five continents, central media organizations stationed in Yunnan, and representatives from provincial-level media in Yunnan.
