Newmarket Property Tax Portal Launches in June

TORONTO, June 18, 2026 – The Town of Newmarket’s new online property tax portal will launch in June 2026. Town information shows that the new portal will allow property owners to view tax account information at any time, print tax bills, check balances and handle other related matters. As 2026 final property tax bills are issued in June, homeowners should also note this year’s three installment deadlines: July 24, August 25 and September 25.

Property tax is an important annual bill for many homeowners, but for newcomers, first-time homebuyers, seniors and residents unfamiliar with municipal systems, tax bills, payment methods and deadlines can be easy to miss. Delayed paper mail, failure to update a mailing address after moving, bank processing time and unfamiliarity with online accounts can all cause residents to miss deadlines and face penalties or interest.

On its property tax page, the town reminds residents that if they do not receive a tax bill, they should contact the town office before the installment due date. Not receiving a bill or notice does not remove the responsibility to pay on time, and it does not remove penalties or interest caused by late payment. For senior households that rely on paper bills, adult children or family members should help confirm in advance whether the bill has arrived, whether the address is correct, and whether online access or automatic payment should be used.

After the new property tax portal launches, homeowners will be able to check account status more easily. In the past, some residents had to wait for mailed bills or call the town to confirm balances. With the online portal, residents will be able to log in, check payment amounts, print tax records and see whether there are any unpaid balances. For homeowners who need documents for loans, tax filing, rental properties or family financial records, access to tax documents at any time will also be more convenient.

However, online service does not mean every resident can use it smoothly right away. Some seniors may not be familiar with English websites or electronic accounts, and newcomer families may not understand the difference between a property tax account, mortgage payments and bank pre-authorized payments. Some homeowners may assume the bank has already handled the payment, but still need to confirm whether the town has received it. Others may pay through online banking but forget to allow processing time, causing the payment to arrive after the deadline.

The 2026 final property tax bill will be paid in three installments. Residents who choose online banking, telephone banking, mailed cheques, pre-authorized payment or payment through a financial institution should check account numbers and processing times in advance. Payments made too close to the deadline may still be considered late if there are bank or mailing delays. Residents who have sold or purchased a home should also confirm tax adjustments before and after closing with their lawyer or the town to avoid confusion over responsibility for the bill.

The launch of the property tax portal is part of the town’s digital municipal services and can reduce wait times when residents need to check their accounts. But digital service cannot fully replace proactive checking. Homeowners should watch for the town’s upcoming registration instructions in June and July, keep their property tax account information, and check balances and payment status before each of the three deadlines.

For Newmarket residents, the practical value of the new portal is not only that tax bills can be viewed online. It can also help homeowners identify problems with addresses, amounts, payments and account information earlier. Newcomer families buying a home in Canada for the first time should especially add property tax dates to their household calendar to avoid unnecessary costs caused by missed municipal bills.(LJI by Yuanyuan)
