CCB Toronto Co-hosts Canada-China LNG Forum

TORONTO, July 7, 2026 – On June 24 and 25, 2026, China Construction Bank Toronto Branch, as an official partner of the Embassy of Canada in China, successfully co-hosted the 20th China International LNG Conference and the 7th Canada-China LNG and Energy Full-Industry-Chain Forum in Yantai, Shandong, together with Natural Resources Canada, the Government of Alberta and the Government of British Columbia. The conference brought together government agencies, major energy companies and leading international enterprises from China and Canada, focusing on the global clean energy transition and deeper full-industry-chain cooperation between the two countries.

The Canada-China LNG and Energy Full-Industry-Chain Forum has now been held for seven consecutive years. China Construction Bank has been the only invited financial institution to co-host the international forum for three consecutive years and delivered a keynote speech at the conference. During the event, a roundtable discussion was successfully held, with Lin Lin, Trade Commissioner of Canada, and Bao Jianjun, Deputy General Manager of CCB Shandong Branch, serving as guests of honour. Representatives from the political and business communities of both countries participated actively in the discussion, leading to a number of preliminary business cooperation intentions.

Canada-China Energy Trade Continues to Grow, Expanding Room for Cooperation

In 2025, China’s imports of Canadian crude oil exceeded 16 million tonnes, valued at more than CAD 10 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 178 per cent. In the second half of the year, China imported CAD 360 million worth of Canadian LNG and CAD 1.37 billion worth of Canadian LPG. Canada’s oil and gas resources are becoming an important option for diversifying China’s energy supply.

During the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to China earlier this year, the leaders of the two countries issued a joint statement agreeing to strengthen oil and gas cooperation and launch a ministerial-level energy dialogue. This injected strong political momentum into bilateral energy cooperation. This year’s forum served as a key industry event to implement that strategic consensus and advance practical cooperation.

Two-Day Agenda Presents Canada’s Energy Opportunities Across the Full Industry Chain

During the conference, officials from Natural Resources Canada, executives from Canadian energy companies, experts from globally recognized consulting firms and other participants held in-depth discussions on major topics, including global LNG market trends, the current state of Canada’s LNG, LPG and crude oil full-industry-chain development, the reshaping of supply and demand patterns by geopolitics, and trends in investment, trade and tax regulations.

These discussions provided Chinese partners and investors with a comprehensive view of cooperation opportunities across the entire value chain, from upstream resources to downstream chemicals.

China Construction Bank Supports Canada-China Energy Cooperation Through Financial Services

CCB Toronto Branch has actively implemented China Construction Bank Head Office’s key work priorities, including stabilizing foreign trade, strengthening industrial chains and empowering development through financial services. Closely aligned with the bank’s “Four Integrations” development strategy, CCB Toronto Branch worked with several domestic branches, including those in Shandong, Zhejiang and Anhui, to invite a number of key high-quality Chinese clients to attend the conference.

Through keynote remarks, high-level diplomatic and business meetings, and targeted government-bank-enterprise matchmaking, the branch fully demonstrated the mission and responsibility of China Construction Bank as a major state-owned commercial bank. It actively responded to the consensus reached by the leaders of China and Canada, using financial services to help elevate cooperation across the Canada-China energy industry chain.

With comprehensive financial service capabilities in cross-border settlement, project financing, trade financing and foreign exchange risk management, CCB Toronto Branch will continue to support the steady and long-term development of the new strategic partnership between China and Canada.
