TORONTO, September 8, 2026 – The 51st Toronto International Film Festival will open on September 10. Traffic changes have already begun around Yorkville and King Street West.
Toronto police said Yorkville Avenue is closed between Bellair Street and Hazelton Avenue starting at 6 a.m. on September 8. The closure will remain in place until 6 a.m. on September 14.
Rogers TIFF Yorkville is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 13. Police expect both vehicle and pedestrian traffic to increase around Yorkville during the event, and some roads may experience delays. People heading to the area may want to consider taking public transit.
Streetcars on King Street West will also begin detouring on September 10.
The TTC said the 504/304 King and 508 Lake Shore routes will start detouring at 4 a.m. on September 10. The first round of changes will continue until 5 a.m. on September 14. The same routes will also temporarily detour again from 3 p.m. to midnight on September 14 and 15.
During the detour, westbound 504A, 304 and 508 streetcars will turn from York Street onto Queen Street West, then travel along Spadina Avenue before returning to King Street West.
Eastbound streetcars will turn from Spadina Avenue onto Queen Street, then detour through York Street and Adelaide Street.
Streetcar stops on King Street West between Spadina Avenue and York Street will be out of service during the detour.
The 504B King route will also be adjusted. Streetcars will detour through Church Street, Wellington Street and York Street before returning to the regular route.
From September 16 to 19, TIFF red carpet events will continue around King Street West. The full-day detours listed above will no longer be in effect during that period, but the TTC expects some evening delays may occur because of crowds and traffic near event sites.
This year’s TIFF will run until September 20. Residents who need to travel through Yorkville or King Street West in the coming days should check the latest TTC service updates and temporary road closure information before leaving.（LJI by Yuanyuan）
