TORONTO, September 2, 2026 – Some students in York Region who take public transit to school next week may not be able to follow the same routes they used last semester.
York Region Transit has released its fall service changes. New schedules for regular transit routes will take effect on September 6, while School Special routes will resume on September 8. Routes in Markham, Aurora and Vaughan are among those affected.
Markham will see several changes. The 404 School Special serving Markville Secondary School will have a new starting point because of redevelopment near Helen Avenue.
Students going to Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School should also check their routes again. After changes to the existing 418 and 419 School Special routes, the 418 will mainly travel along 16th Avenue, while the 419 will mainly travel along Major Mackenzie Drive.
The 445 afternoon service for St. Robert Catholic High School will also add one trip.
Some routes will not return. The 468 School Special via Kleinburg, which previously served Emily Carr Secondary School, has been cancelled because of low ridership. Students who used that route will need to check other YRT options after school starts.
In Aurora, the 426, 432 and 437 will see routing changes, while a new 438 School Special will be added to serve students travelling from the Orchard Heights area to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School.
Beyond student routes, schedules for regular routes such as 320 Jane Express and 360 Vaughan Mills/Wonderland will also be adjusted. On-Request Kleinburg-Nashville will add midday weekday service.
Because regular route changes begin on September 6, while School Special routes resume on September 8, the two dates are not the same. Parents who are used to taking their children to last year’s stop on the first day of school should check the YRT Trip Planner in advance, especially for routes 404, 418, 419 and the cancelled 468.（LJI by Yuanyuan）
