Patrick Brown was re-elected mayor of Brampton with approximately 54.9 per cent of the vote, securing his third term in office.

Incumbent mayors in several major York Region municipalities also retained their positions. Frank Scarpitti was re-elected mayor of Markham, David West won another term as Richmond Hill mayor, and Steven Del Duca will continue serving as mayor of Vaughan.

The participation of Chinese Canadian candidates also drew attention during this year’s municipal elections. According to publicly available media figures compiled after nominations closed, at least 47 Chinese Canadian candidates ran for office across Toronto, Markham, Richmond Hill and Mississauga, four municipalities with significant Chinese Canadian populations.
