Yee Hong Charity Walk Raises $180,000 as More Than 500 Participants Support Seniors’ Services

TORONTO, October 1, 2026 – The Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation held its annual charity walk at Milliken District Park in Scarborough on September 26, drawing more than 500 participants. The event has raised $180,000 so far, surpassing its original goal of $150,000. Funds raised will support Yee Hong’s seniors’ services and the new Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Long-Term Care Home, which is expected to open early next year.

The Yee Hong Ng Siu Chan Long-Term Care Home is expected to welcome its first residents in early 2027. The home will provide 224 long-term care beds, along with community services and seniors’ day programs.

On the day of the event, teams from Yee Hong’s four long-term care homes, community and professional services departments, as well as Yee Hong Garden Terrace and Mon Sheong Court seniors’ residences took part in the walk. Several businesses, community groups and volunteer organizations also formed teams to support the fundraiser.

Dr. Joseph Y. K. Wong, founder of Yee Hong and chair of the foundation, said at the opening ceremony that the community’s support over the years has played an important role in helping Yee Hong develop seniors’ services.

Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation President Albert Siu said this year’s fundraising total reached $180,000, exceeding the original target. He thanked the families, teams, donors and volunteers who took part in the event.

Several political and community representatives also attended, including Member of Parliament Maggie Chi, Ontario Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho, and Members of Provincial Parliament Aris Babikian and Jonathan Tsao.

In addition to the charity walk, organizers presented the Golden Heart Award to three seniors who have continued serving the community after retirement.

Among them, 85-year-old Julia Chan has volunteered with Yee Hong for more than 25 years after retirement, contributing more than 6,000 hours of service. Godwin Lam and Winnie Yeung have long taught tai chi, brain health dance and drum fitness activities at Yee Hong Garden Terrace.

After the walk, community activities including singing performances were also held on site. Yee Hong said fundraising for this year’s campaign will continue until mid-October, with proceeds going toward seniors’ care and related community services.
