Ontario Opens Seniors Community Grant Applications, Up to $25,000 Available for Community Groups

TORONTO, October 28, 2026 – The Ontario government announced on October 27 that applications are now open for the 2027–2028 Seniors Community Grant Program. The province is allocating $7 million in this round of funding to support community projects serving people aged 55 and older. Eligible projects can apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000, with applications due by 5 p.m. on December 17.

The grants are primarily intended to help older adults maintain their independence, reduce social isolation and increase community participation. Examples of eligible projects identified by the government include smartphone and digital skills training, fraud prevention education, healthy eating programs and intergenerational activities bringing seniors and younger people together. Projects may be delivered in person, online or remotely.

Of the total funding available, an additional $1 million has been specifically designated for projects aimed at improving the quality of life of older veterans.

Eligible incorporated non-profit organizations, municipalities and Indigenous organizations can apply for up to $25,000 per project. Local seniors groups that are not formally incorporated may also apply through an individual representing the group, with a maximum grant of $10,000.

For Chinese Canadian community organizations in the Greater Toronto Area, projects such as Mandarin-language smartphone training, fraud prevention workshops and seniors social activities may also qualify, provided they meet the program requirements. Grant funding is awarded to approved organizations or groups and is not provided as direct cash payments to individual seniors.

Applications must be submitted through the province’s Transfer Payment Ontario funding management platform. Organizations that have not yet registered must first create an account and prepare information about their project objectives, planned activities, implementation timelines and budgets.

The province will also hold online information sessions on November 10 and December 2, with sessions available in English and French. The sessions will explain how to complete applications and outline the review requirements.

Approved projects are expected to begin in summer 2027 and must be completed by March 31, 2028. While the maximum grant amount is $25,000, final funding decisions will depend on project details, eligibility and available resources.

Community organizations planning to apply are encouraged to prepare their project proposals and budgets in advance and submit their applications before the December 17 deadline at 5 p.m.
