On December 6, the Chinese Consulate-General in Toronto held a briefing for the 2026 Toronto “Happy Chinese New Year” celebration series. Over 30 participants attended the meeting, including Consul General Luo Weidong, representatives from participating organizations, and members of the media.

Consul General Luo noted that the Spring Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals of the Chinese nation, has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With the strong support of all participating partners over the years, the “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations in Toronto have become an important cultural bridge connecting the peoples of China and Canada.

Looking ahead, Consul General Luo expressed the hope that participating organizations will continue strengthening communication with partners in China, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and advancing further cultural collaboration. He also encouraged all parties to join efforts in championing traditional Chinese culture and contributing to the richness of Canada’s multicultural landscape.

This was the first time the Consulate-General hosted such a coordination meeting. Representatives from participating organizations provided updates on their planned events, fostering closer cooperation and a strong spirit of mutual support among all partners.

The 2026 Toronto “Happy Chinese New Year” celebration series will take place from January to February, featuring more than ten cultural events including concerts, temple fairs, and traditional opera performances, showcasing the festive spirit of the Spring Festival and the vibrancy of Chinese culture.(LJI by Rita)
