TORONTO, September 29, 2026 – The Chinese Embassy in Canada held a reception on September 24 to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 400 guests attended the event, including Rob Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Kody Blois, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister; more than a dozen Members of Parliament and Senators; Glenn Purves, Deputy Minister of International Trade; Francis Bilodeau, Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage; officials from different government departments; guests from various sectors of Canadian society; members of the diplomatic corps; and representatives of Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese and Chinese students.
Ambassador Wang Di delivered remarks at the reception, highlighting China’s development achievements and the positive progress in China-Canada relations.
Wang said the two sides should implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, become partners that respect each other, pursue shared development, build mutual trust and cooperate with one another, and continue to enrich the substance of the new China-Canada Strategic Partnership.
Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant and other Canadian guests spoke positively about the recent momentum in Canada-China relations. They reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to the one-China policy and expressed hope that the two sides would further deepen cooperation across various fields.
During the reception, a video specially produced by the Chinese Embassy in Canada was screened, focusing on China’s development and China-Canada relations. Guests also watched performances featuring humanoid robots and an orchestra band, and viewed themed photo exhibitions.
The reception provided an opportunity for guests from Chinese and Canadian sectors to exchange views on bilateral relations, people-to-people ties and cooperation in different fields. Participants expressed hope that China and Canada would continue strengthening dialogue, enhance mutual understanding and support the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
The event also showcased China’s development over the 77 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, while highlighting ongoing exchanges between the peoples of China and Canada.
