MARKHAM, ON (May 2, 2025) Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) Foundation’s Fortune Leadership Council (FLC) met for their annual luncheon, and to celebrate raising $2.7 million. With the recent announcement of the new Fortune Club, 13 individuals joined during the lunch, leading to a record-breaking $3.15 million raised to date – surpassing their $3 million goal!

FLC, a network of local Chinese business leaders, was established in 2016 with a mission to raise awareness and give back to Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) to support its key fundraising priorities and needs. Under the leadership of founding co-chairs, Alan Kwong and Kenny Wan, and honourary chair, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, FLC completed its first $1 million goal in 2021 and at the time MSH celebrated FLC’s contribution by naming the hospital’s Emergency Orange Zone.

The Fortune Club, which launched today, is an exclusive network of Chinese business leaders and MSH ambassadors who will collaborate and strategize on the continued fundraising success of FLC. Membership is by referral and must be accompanied by an individual donation commitment between $10,000 and $100,000 or more towards MSH Foundation.

“We are thrilled to announce that we have exceeded our $3 million fundraising goal today, thanks to our generous community, and thanks to our 13 new generous Fortune Club members, who were driven to show their continued, heartfelt support,” says Wan, Past Board Director, MSH Foundation. “We are not stopping here though. Health care needs span the full spectrum of life — starting from birth. Our community deserves exceptional care, and we are dedicated to ensuring our hospital has the funding it needs for families to have access to the most advanced technology and procedures in all areas at MSH. So, we will continue to set new goals for ourselves, and work hard to achieve them.”

For nine years, FLC has inspired others, specifically in the Chinese community, to step up and support the hospital.
“We are delighted to help raise funds for MSH — the collective lifeline of our community,” says Kwong. “Health care is a lifelong need — from birth to old age. We are all going to need MSH at some point in our lives. So, we recognize the true value in giving. Supporting MSH is supporting ourselves and our community.”

Suzette Strong, CEO, MSH Foundation, along with Mark Fam, President and CEO, Oak Valley Health, and Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti and Honorary Co-Chair, FLC, were in attendance and commended the contributions made by FLC over the years. “Health care’s complex landscape is changing, and MSH’s diverse community is growing,” says Strong. “MSH is committed to delivering quality, integrated, patient-centred care for all the communities it serves, and we recognize that we wouldn’t be able to do that without the dedication and generosity of groups like the FLC. On behalf of MSH Foundation, I would like to thank you for all you do.”

FLC remains involved in numerous fundraising initiatives including the esteemed annual Fortune Ball which will be held on November 22.
