TORONTO, April 24, 2026 – Among Yunnan’s many lakes, Fuxian Lake has always stood out as something especially distinctive. Located in Chengjiang, Yuxi, and part of the Nanpan River system within the Pearl River Basin, it is not only the largest lake at the source of the Pearl River, but also one of China’s best-quality inland freshwater lakes and one of the country’s largest deep, oligotrophic freshwater lakes by storage capacity. For many years, Fuxian Lake has maintained excellent overall water quality. Its clear, deep, and expansive surface has made it one of the most recognizable natural symbols among Yunnan’s plateau lakes.

What makes Fuxian Lake unforgettable begins with its clarity. Its average transparency reaches 5 to 6 metres and can extend to as much as 12.5 metres. When sunlight falls across the lake, the water reveals layered shades of blue, green, and turquoise, combining the purity of a plateau lake with a depth that almost feels ocean-like. Its shoreline stretches about 100.8 kilometres, with an average depth of 95.2 metres and a maximum depth of 158.9 metres, placing it among China’s leading deep freshwater lakes. As the largest reservoir of water among Yunnan’s key plateau lakes, Fuxian Lake is not only an important ecological resource, but also one of Yuxi’s most representative natural treasures.
What unfolds around this lake is not only natural scenery, but also an increasingly complete cultural and tourism space. Fuxian Lake National Tourism Resort was officially designated in 2019, becoming Yuxi’s first national-level tourism resort. In recent years, as national wetland parks, distinctive guesthouse villages, boardwalks, town markets, night markets, museums, and theme parks have gradually developed, Fuxian Lake has evolved from a single sightseeing destination centered on “viewing the lake” into a comprehensive tourism destination that brings together leisure vacations, wellness and sports, conferences and exhibitions, cultural experiences, and long-stay living.

Arriving at Fuxian Lake, one can feel a rhythm different from many other tourist destinations. It is a place suited both to a short visit, watching the sunset by the water and feeling the highland breeze, and to a longer stay, experiencing a slower-paced, lower-density, and more nature-oriented way of life. The clear water, mild climate, open space, and increasingly mature supporting facilities together form what makes Fuxian Lake so appealing.

For many people, Fuxian Lake is not just a scenic spot, but more like a reflection of an ideal way of life. It holds both ecological beauty and everyday warmth; it carries both the longing for a faraway place and the possibility of a life one might actually choose to stay and build there. (End)
