CCTVmedium News (October 15th, 2024) – China Lion Film Distribution has acquired all media rights from Universe Films to the hit Andy Lau-starrer HIGH FORCES for release in North America. A leading distribution company for Asian language films in North America, China Lion has set October 25th, 2024, as the theatrical release date for the film throughout Canada and the United States. The action thriller, recently released in the Mainland of China and throughout Asia, has been a popular title during the Chinese Golden Week holiday.
International superstar Andy Lau leads the cast as Gao Haojun, a professional bodyguard by trade. Distanced from his family after a car accident takes the sight of his daughter, he is pulled back into their circle when a flight they’re aboard is overtaken by armed hijackers. A taut puzzle unravels as the hijackers’ motivations are revealed and Haojun is forced to take on a rescue mission.
HIGH FORCES is directed by Oxide Pang (who, along with his brother Danny Pang, directed modern horror classic THE EYE). He most recently helmed Chinese language hits OUT OF INFERNO (2013), THE CONSPIRATORS (2013) and both THE DETECTIVE features (2007 & 2011). OUT OF INFERNO broke new grounds for CGI and 3D effects out of Hong Kong. HIGH FORCES continues his stellar work based around star-driven storytelling and energetic special effects.
With over three decades in the entertainment industry, Andy Lau has become a legend through his acting, singing and related producing efforts. His most recent works include I DID IT MY WAY, THE WHITE STORM 2, the SHOCK WAVE series and CHASING THE DRAGON. With over 170 movies to his credit, including such acclaimed works as A SIMPLE LIFE, RUNNING OUT OF TIME and SAVING MR WU, Lau has established himself as the go-to actor for his strong acting ability and top box office results. He’s been the recipient of two Best Actor Awards at the Golden Horse Awards among many, many other honors.
The film co-stars Lui Tao as Fu Yuan, Gao Haojun’s wife, and Zhang Zi Feng as Xiaojun, Gao Haojun’s daughter. Liu Tao (Tamia Liu) is a popular Chinese actress, she’s best known for her award-winning television work in such hits as “To Elderly With Love” (2013), “Nirvana in Fire” (2015), “Ode to Joy” (2016) and “Hope All Is Well With Us” (2019). Zhang Zi Feng (Wendy Zhang) is widely considered one of the best young actors in China today. One of her earliest works in Feng Xiaogang’s AFTERSHOCK (2009) garnered her a Best Newcomer honor at the 31st Hundred Flowers Awards. She was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at the 55th Golden Horse Film Festival for her work in LAST LETTER.
