Markham, ON – June 27, 2025 — As part of the annual Ontario Seniors Month, Logan Kanapathi, MPP for Markham–Thornhill, hosted a special recognition ceremony at the Armadale Community Center on Friday to honour a group of dedicated senior volunteers for their outstanding contributions to the local community. The event celebrated the commitment and service of older adults who have worked quietly yet impactfully to build a more inclusive and compassionate society.

The ceremony was attended by numerous local residents and community members, who gathered in a warm atmosphere of gratitude and appreciation. In his remarks, MPP Kanapathi said, “Our community is stronger because of the wisdom, dedication, and experience of our seniors. They are not only the backbone of their families but also the driving force behind our community’s growth. During Ontario Seniors Month, we express our deepest gratitude to these selfless individuals.”

The honoured volunteers came from a variety of community organizations and cultural groups across Markham. Over the past year, they have been actively involved in a range of local services — including language support for fellow seniors, environmental cleanup and beautification initiatives, organizing cultural events, and providing compassionate care services. Many recipients expressed that volunteering has enriched their own lives while also helping them build meaningful connections with residents from diverse backgrounds, thereby strengthening community bonds.

The event not only recognized the crucial role seniors play in community life but also promoted the concept of active aging, encouraging more older adults to stay engaged and contribute their talents and experience to public life.

Ontario Seniors Month, observed every June, is a provincial initiative that honours the valuable contributions of older adults and raises public awareness about the importance of recognizing and respecting seniors in our society.(LJI by Rudy)
