The 8th “Chinese Story · Chinese New Year” Gala to Take Place in Toronto on January 31, 2026

The 8th “Chinese Story · Chinese New Year” Chinese New Year Gala for Chinese Communities in Canada will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Meridian Arts Centre (Lyric Theatre), 5040 Yonge Street, Toronto.

Organizers described the gala as a large-scale performing arts event dedicated to telling Chinese stories and promoting Chinese culture. Since its launch, the event has successfully presented seven editions, with the upcoming show marking its eighth. Organizers said the gala has become one of the Chinese community’s signature cultural brands in Canada.

“According to the organizers, the 2026 gala is jointly presented by the Canadian Association of Chinese Reporters (CACR), CCTVmedium, and the Vaughan Multicultural Community Association (VMCA), and forms part of the 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” program series in the Consulate-General of China in Toronto’s consular district. The show is expected to feature artists from both Canada and China, presenting a range of art forms including music, dance, and traditional opera, highlighting the distinctive appeal of Chinese culture and contemporary expression.

Organizers said this year’s program will place special emphasis on original works and premiere performances, showcasing new creations and new stage interpretations. The gala’s production is led by the Canada Performing Arts Alliance, with organizers citing professional staging and show execution to support production quality and the audience experience.

Organizers also announced sponsorship support. China Construction Bank — Toronto Branch serves as the Title Sponsor of the gala. Additional support is provided by the Canada-China Entrepreneurs Association and Da Ya Li (sponsor/partner). Organizers said partner recognition will be integrated across onsite visibility and multi-platform promotion.

Key highlights announced by the organizers

1) Major venue
The gala will be staged at Meridian Arts Centre’s Lyric Theatre in North York. Organizers noted the venue is accessible and conveniently located near TTC subway service.

2) Multi-platform distribution plan
Organizers said the show is planned for distribution across TV and digital platforms in Canada and China, including selected Chinese local TV stations and online platforms.

3) Cultural exchange platform
Organizers said the event has been included in the Consulate-General of China in Toronto’s “Happy Chinese New Year” series since 2019, and continues to promote public cultural engagement and Canada–China cultural exchange through professional production and multi-platform outreach.

Organizers added that partnership and sponsorship opportunities remain open to businesses and institutions, with benefits designed to include onsite presence, multi-platform visibility, VIP seating, and networking components.
