Chinese Consulate General in Toronto Hosts Reception Celebrating the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 55th Anniversary of China-Canada Diplomatic Relations

Toronto, Sept. 27 — The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto hosted a grand reception at the Pan Pacific Hotel to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. More than 500 guests attended the event, including representatives from all three levels of Canadian government, members of the diplomatic corps in Toronto, business and academic leaders, as well as representatives of the Chinese community.

The reception featured videos highlighting the development of China-Canada relations, the achievements of New China, and commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and the 60th anniversary of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Guests also enjoyed performances of symphony, dance, traditional Chinese music, tea art, and calligraphy, along with a photo exhibition themed on the 55th anniversary of China-Canada diplomatic ties.

In his keynote speech, Consul General Luo Weidong reviewed China’s remarkable achievements over the past 76 years and underscored the country’s continued commitment to high-quality development, opening-up, and global cooperation. He emphasized that China remains a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order. Luo also highlighted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, stressing China’s resolve to safeguard peace and multilateralism.

Speaking on China-Canada relations, Consul General Luo noted that despite differences, mutual benefit and cooperation have always been the mainstream of bilateral ties over the past 55 years. He called on both sides to seize the opportunity of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership to advance relations toward healthy, stable, and sustainable development.

Former Canadian Senator Vivienne Poy delivered remarks at the reception, highly commending the achievements of the People’s Republic of China and expressing her appreciation for the deepening friendship and cooperation between Canada and China. She reaffirmed her commitment to further fostering mutual understanding and exchanges between the two peoples.

Consul General Luo concluded by proposing a toast to the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, to the prosperity of both nations and the friendship between their peoples, and to the health and success of all guests.
