Guangxi Overseas Chinese Federation Delegation Visits Canada

TORONTO, July 12, 2026 – Chen Jieying, part-time Vice Chairperson of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Chairperson of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, led a Guangxi federation delegation on a visit to Toronto, Canada, from July 11 to 12. The delegation carried out overseas Chinese community engagement, discussion sessions and city visits, meeting Chinese Canadians and people with ties to Guangxi while promoting deeper exchanges and cooperation between Guangxi and Canada in trade, education, culture and overseas Chinese affairs.

On July 12, a welcome symposium for the Guangxi Overseas Chinese Federation delegation was held in Toronto. The event was hosted by the Canadian International Education Assistance Foundation and Centre, with support from the Canada-China Trade Council and the Scarborough-York Region Chinese Business Association. Representatives from the local overseas Chinese community, business sector, education sector, Chinese community organizations and Guangxi university alumni groups attended the discussion.

Rong Shouyu, Chair of the Canadian International Education Assistance Foundation and Centre, said he hoped the visit would serve as an opportunity to further promote practical results in people-to-people exchanges, education cooperation, trade relations and overseas Chinese community connections between Guangxi and Canada.

In her remarks, Chen Jieying said overseas Chinese communities are an important force in promoting friendly exchanges between China and other countries, as well as in supporting the development of China and their hometowns. She said the Guangxi Overseas Chinese Federation will continue to play its role as a bridge, bringing together overseas Chinese communities, gathering their strength, protecting their rights and serving their needs.

She also expressed gratitude to Chinese community organizations in Canada and overseas Chinese residents for their recent active participation in disaster relief efforts for Guangxi, including fundraising and charitable support. Chen said she hoped Chinese Canadians would continue to make use of their role in connecting China and the world, actively promote Guangxi and help introduce the region to more people, while contributing to people-to-people friendship between China and Canada and Guangxi’s high-quality development.

During the symposium, participants exchanged views on trade cooperation, education exchanges, cultural communication, youth development, alumni connections and charitable initiatives. Several Chinese community leaders also introduced the progress of fundraising efforts in support of disaster-affected areas in Guangxi.

During the event, representatives from China and Canada exchanged commemorative gifts. After the symposium, the delegation visited downtown Toronto to learn more about Canadian society and culture, as well as the positive role played by overseas Chinese communities in promoting people-to-people friendship between China and Canada.

Guests said they would take the visit as a new starting point to actively promote deeper exchanges and cooperation between Guangxi and Canada in trade, education, culture, overseas Chinese affairs and charitable work.(Reported by Jennifer Zhu in Canada)
