FIRST-IN-CANADA COSTCO BUSINESS CENTRE TO OPEN IN SCARBOROUGH

— Unique concept benefits businesses of all sizes, from retailers to restaurants to offices

Scarborough, ON – Costco Wholesale today announced the groundbreaking of its first Canadian Costco Business Centre in Scarborough, located at 50 Thermos Rd. in the Warden-Eglinton area.

Pictured at the groundbreaking of the new Costco Business Centre in Scarborough are (from the left): Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada; Janet De Silva, President and CEO, Toronto Region Board of Trade; Andrée Brien, Senior Vice-President and Senior General Merchandise Manager, Costco Wholesale Canada; Marc-André Bally, Vice President, Business Centre, Costco Wholesale Canada; and James Dalton, General Manager, Costco Wholesale Business Centre.

The Costco Business Centre concept is new to Canada and open to all Costco members. Though open to all members, the 127,000-square-foot location is vastly different from any current Costco Wholesale warehouse, with 80 percent of its product offerings unique to the Costco Business Centre, and targeted to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes, from retailers to restaurants to offices.

“More and more businesses like Costco are choosing Toronto as the city to expand their footprint,” said Toronto Mayor John Tory. “Costco’s Business Centre will help our local businesses grow by providing them with the products they need in a timely manner. This is good for business and it’s good for our economy.”

The new Scarborough Costco Business Centre location will offer more than 3,000 high-quality items targeted specifically to the restaurant/food service, offices and convenience/grocery stores – from bulk food items, to commercial kitchen wares and cleaning supplies, to office furniture, coffee needs and everything in between. Business owners will find the same items available both online and in-store.

Rapidly growing in popularity in the U.S., the new Costco Business Centre offers next-business-day delivery to commercial addresses inside of a delivery zone extending approximately 20 kilometres from the building’s location. With its own fleet of trucks, the centre’s deliveries will be filled next day if completed by members before 3 p.m. and its delivery zone will extend east of Bathurst Street to Markham Road and from Steeles Avenue south to Lake Ontario. Members can order for delivery by visiting costcobusinesscentre.ca. Offering business-friendly hours to meet the needs of local businesses, the centres hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The arrival of this new concept in Canada will enable Costco to better respond to the needs of Canada’s business owners,” said Andrée Brien, Senior Vice-President and Senior General Merchandise Manager for Costco Wholesale Canada. “Additionally, we can now offer these members a distinct product selection, more convenient hours and the option to deliver to their place of business. As a result, we hope to also bring new consumers to discover the benefits of a Costco membership.”

“Costco members are always looking for great value,” commented James Dalton, Warehouse Manager of the new location. “They will undoubtedly find that this convenient and spacious new location will present an incomparable choice of business merchandise – at prices that only Costco Wholesale can offer.”

The Scarborough Costco Business Centre is expected to open in March 2017. The annual fee is just $55 for a Business Membership or $55 for a Gold Star Membership. All Costco Wholesale memberships include a FREE spouse card and are valid at Costco locations around the world.
