The 7th Annual “2025 Chinese Stories · Chinese New Year” Gala Shines in Toronto

A Spectacular Celebration of Chinese Culture

The 7th Annual “2025 Chinese Stories · Chinese New Year” Gala illuminated the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts on January 11, bringing together vibrant performances, cultural pride, and heartfelt community connections. As the first Chinese New Year gala since the festival’s recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the event carried profound significance.

A Night of Cultural Splendor

The gala opened with a rousing drum performance, Auspiciousness, and a dazzling dance, Golden Serpent Welcomes the New Year. These opening acts captured the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year, setting the tone for an evening filled with artistry and cultural resonance.

The event featured an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary performances:

  • Cultural Tradition: Elegant dances like Refined Beauty and Dancing to the Song showcased the depth and grace of Chinese culture.
  • Fusion of Styles: Performances blending street dance and ballet celebrated the harmonious integration of Eastern and Western art forms.
  • Youth and Legacy: The children’s ensemble The Song of Dynasties took the audience on a historical journey, while the Red Maple Sunset Troupe, comprised of senior performers averaging 68 years old, delivered a poignant rendition of My Hometown, the Great Northeast.
  • A Grand Finale: The evening concluded with Chinese Stories, a powerful new quartet performed by local vocalists Lin Xidan and Liu Yutong, leaving the audience inspired and united.

Global Broadcast and Lasting Impact

Though the curtain has closed on this year’s gala, its impact continues to resonate. The entire event will be broadcast during the Lunar New Year on OMNI Television, a division of Rogers Media, as well as on major networks in China, including Yinchuan TV, Haikou TV, and Changchun TV.
