Sydney Sweeney hit the streets of Toronto to promote her latest film, “Christy”, at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Friday. The 27-year-old actress arrived alongside Christy Martin, the boxer she portrays in the drama, which chronicles Martin’s journey from a West Virginia coal mining family to the biggest name in female boxing in the ’90s.

Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy wore a classic black suede suit to the Royal Alexandra Theatre for the premiere of “Steve“, a film in which he stars as a headteacher at a reform school for boys while dealing with his own mental health.

“Motor City” co-stars Shailene Woodley and Ben Foster hit the Toronto International Film Festival premiere red carpet with shades and attitude. The movie is a visceral revenge tale set against the industrial backdrop of 1970s Detroit.

On Thursday, actor Ryan Reynolds was on hand to open the festival with the premiere of the documentary “John Candy: I Like Me“. The Deadpool actor served as a producer on the project, which pays tribute to the life of Toronto-born comedy icon, John Candy. “Lovely Day” is an adaptation of Montreal-based writer Alain Farah’s 2021 autobiographical novel Mille secrets mille dangers. Quebec-born director Philippe Falardeau tells the story of Alain and his bride, Virginie, as their anxiety builds toward the big day through subverting the narrative of classic wedding movies. The film goes back and forth in the timeline, mirroring the humour and chaos of wedding planning.
TIFF has only been on for two day so far, but the stars have already descended on the city in a big way. The 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is celebrating a major milestone this year. The fest kicked off on Thursday, September 4, and is running through September 14, the festival will showcase a massive program of 209 feature films, 6 Classics, 10 Primetime selections, and 66 shorts.
