TORONTO, September 9, 2026 – Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow officially launched her re-election campaign on September 9 and is scheduled to hold a campaign rally tonight at the Danforth Music Hall. Her campaign team expects more than 1,000 people to attend.
Chow said she hopes to continue advancing municipal work on housing, public transit, community safety and the cost of living in a possible next term, while building what she described as a more livable, safer and more caring Toronto.
In materials released by her campaign team, Chow listed her municipal record over the past three years as the foundation of her re-election campaign. The campaign pointed to free meals for public school students, three consecutive years of frozen TTC fares, expanded library hours, and the hiring of additional police officers, 911 operators, firefighters and paramedics.
The campaign also said Toronto has received several rounds of funding support from higher levels of government in recent years, the City’s credit rating has been upgraded to AA+, and multiple affordable housing projects have moved into construction. On public safety and emergency services, the campaign said the citywide crime rate has declined and 911 call wait times have been significantly reduced.
Housing and property taxes are expected to remain major issues in the mayoral election. Last week, Chow proposed that, if re-elected, she would keep property tax increases close to the rate of inflation.
In her campaign statement released today, Chow said Toronto is still facing housing costs, economic uncertainty and pressure on public services, and that she wants to continue the work already underway.
Chow has previously served as a Toronto school trustee, city councillor and federal Member of Parliament. She was elected Toronto mayor in 2023, becoming the city’s first Chinese Canadian mayor.
Her campaign team said tonight’s rally will further outline the re-election campaign schedule and related policy positions.（LJI by Yuanyuan）
